The plan of action
The original plan of action from 1997 had as its overall objective
- to develop a plan of action based on the involved institutions own plans of action and the deliberations that the steering committee and the
consultant had themselves.
- to establish an channel of information with minutes of meetings, newsletters and annual reports.
- to get a large number of information boards positioned round about.
- to establish cooperation with the area's tourist bureaus.
Joint development initiatives
The results for 1997-2000 meet the expectations laid down in the plan of action.
- The first 45 information boards have been positioned in the landscape.
- A text about localities from the Middle Ages has been produced along with fact sheets about natural history and cultural history and a joint
mail dust jacket.
- The joint venture has its own well-visited homepage on the Internet,
www.ecomuseum.dk.
- There has in addition been research on the Palaeolithic age, the extraction of bog iron ore and more.
- There have also been successful marketing initiatives such as a joint presentation advertisement in the brochures of three tourist bureaus,
publicity in the Regional Tourist Newspaper and the development and publication of a joint brochure for the Freshwater Museum, The Monastery of Øm
Museum and Gl. Mill and Wooden-shoe Museum.
The first completed information projects on footpaths are;
- Information boards in Ring Skov (wood), Brædstrup
- Information boards the hollowed tracks south of Ry (part of a prehistoric communication system)
- Information boards and the marking of footpaths along Sortesøstien (The Black Lake Path) and in The Deer Park, Skanderborg (a system that goes
past 4 lakes, The Occupation Museum and several monuments).
As a result of these projects, cooperation has now started with the Counties of Århus and Vejle and the District Councils of Skanderborg,
Brædstrup and Ry on joint information projects about, among other things, footpaths and signposts in the area.
In the summer of 2000 material was prepared for a travelling exhibition about the Danish Lake District Ecomuseum. The exhibition now circulates in
the three District Councils as well as among the sponsors.
Present projects
In the second plan of action, details of three projects were prepared.
- The alteration and development of the exhibition in Dørup Stald (Stable) - the theme is about Mossø and the fishermen there.
- Further development of the Klostermølle Nature Centre - the plan is to establish a forge and explain about cardboard production.
- The establishment of a footpath system between Gl. Rye and Klostermølle Nature Centre including information boards and brochures as well as
the construction of a parking place and the replacement of a bridge over Salten Å (river).
In addition, Ry District Council will mark out the footpath, Bornlundvej (a prehistoric track) using the standard concept developed. It connects
the Freshwater Museum and Gl. Rye Mill and Wooden-shoe Museum.
In 2001, many new initiatives have been implemented. There are brochures on Illerup Ådal (river valley) and Fårbjerg, a further 20 information
boards are in place and there has been several guided tours for visitors from abroad. There are also project descriptions and discussions with new
participants in progress.
A registration of cultural and natural environments in Skanderborg, Brædstrup and Ry District Councils is under preparation now. This involves
research in available sources, such as notes on place names, information available in the institutions themselves and research projects.
In 2004 The Danish Lake District Ecomuseum faces many new challenges. The next step in the progression from being a network into becoming an
institution will be taken. New information boards will be put in position although not all the agreements are in place yet. The development of books
and maps in cooperation with the various tourist agencies will start, and a revised and more ambitious plan will be set in motion.
