Organization

The Danish Lake District Ecomuseum is a voluntary informal network developed between independent institutions and in which the cohesion, the interdisciplinary themes and interesting histories are presented and explained.

The network's bond is an agreement on cooperation. The Danish Lake District Ecomuseum is different from other ecomuseums, which have several visitor centres organizationally and economically bound to a single institution. This ecomuseum is a joint arrangement between several sovereign institutions.

Representatives from the commercial department of the County of Århus, tourist bureaus and/or tourist societies in Ry, Skanderborg, Brædstrup and Them District Councils participate in the steering committee meetings.

In the near future, new participants are expected to join as members of the Danish Lake District Ecomuseum.

The Steering Committee

The steering committee has overall responsibility for

• the coordination of projects and activities
• a continued discussion of and an implementation of the group plan of action.
• the implementation and planning of a joint marketing strategy.
• the preparation of material for school services.
• maintaining coordinated contact with the authorities.
• the preparation of project applications.
• establishing task groups.

Secretariat

The Secretariat is a working group made up of 4 members from the steering committee. There is a representative for Skanderborg Museum, one for the Museums in Ry District Council, one from the County of Århus and one for the Ry Advisory Unit.

The main duties of the secretariat are the coordination, project management and administrative work necessary between the steering committee's meetings. This also includes providing the means, practical as well as financial, to carryout the projects.

The secretariat prepares the plans for agreed projects and activities. The secretariat is responsible for the annual report with a progress report on the various projects.

The project consultants participate in the meetings of the Secretariat.

Working parties

The secretariat has formed three working parties;

Working party - organization. It is responsible for suggestions about the future organization, statutes etc.

Working party - Internet. It has responsibility for developing the Danish Lake District Ecomuseum's homepage and for the "style of presentation" to be used by the other institutions.

Working party - school service. It is responsible for producing ideas and suggestions for material that will be available for use by schools, school camps etc.

Two people, from the working party - school service, are in the process of developing an internet based database and material bank for the homepage.
