The Danish Lake District Ecomuseum

The vision and aims of
the Danish Lake District Ecomuseum

The vision is a collective image of a development of exhibition themes based on the human exploitation of natural resources in the Lake District of Central Jutland, particularly in Skanderborg County, which existed until 1970.

Skanderborg County

The Danish Lake District Ecomuseum is a "museum without walls" and its basic aim is "the explanation and presentation of cultural traces in the landscape in their original context". There are connections to fishing, forestry and agriculture throughout the ages. There is the development and construction of the infrastructure, starting with prehistoric settlements, on to the building of villages, markets, market towns, provincial staging and station towns and ending with the present District Councils. The Ecomuseum has the opportunity to create new experiences and presentations in the landscape if this aim is developed optimally.

The ecomuseum regards "evocation" as a high priority in. That entails an engaged presentation and explanation of natural history and cultural history, right from simple guided tours to the engagement of local theatres.
