An introduction to the Danish Lake District Ecomuseum
The Danish Lake District Ecomuseum offers fantastic nature as well as an interesting cultural history with some important monuments and relics from
many important epochs in the history of Denmark. People have been attracted to this region ever since the end of the Glacial period due to the opportunities
that the land, woods and fresh water have provided.
The Danish Lake District Ecomuseum aims to strengthen and improve the presentation of the region's culture and nature in order to provide the local
people and the many guests to the area with the best possible experiences and possibilities. The area covered by the Danish Lake District Ecomuseum
is approximately the area covered by the County of Skanderborg that existed up to 1970. It is an area of 1,719 square kilometres. The County of Skanderborg
was also called "The Monastery County" because at its foundation, it was based on the properties of the Monasteries founded in the Middle Ages in the
Lake District of Central Jutland.
